If there were an award for the most energetic cake smash photography session, Bennett would win it hands down—or should we say no hands?! From the moment we set the cake in front of him, he was all in, quite literally! Instead of daintily poking at the frosting, Bennett dove in headfirst, determined to enjoy every bite in the most entertaining way possible.

This little guy didn’t stay put for long. His cake smash photography session quickly turned into a full-body experience—sitting, crawling, standing, and moving in every direction just to get more cake into his mouth. Watching him was pure joy, as he made the best faces with each messy bite. Whether it was a big-eyed look of surprise, a frosting-covered smirk, or a determined expression as he tried to wrangle the cake, every second was priceless.

I always try to incorporate as much play and fun as possible in my sessions, making sure little ones feel comfortable and free to be themselves. You’ll notice in some of Bennett’s photos that he’s playing with a small wooden car—one of the simple, timeless toys I keep on hand. These little details add personality to the images without distracting from the moment. One of my favorite shots from his session happened when we were playing peek-a-boo with a wooden ladder—his laughter and curiosity shining through in a single frame.

One-year sessions are always fun, but this cake smash photography session took things to a whole new level. His wild energy and hilarious expressions made for some of the best first birthday photos ever.
